Plan your event well in advance, choosing a good location. Ensure that there are not other events on that day.
Publicity is priority, it is important as the event. Handout leaflets, try local radio. This can often be free.

If you are planning an outside event try to have an indoor venue available in case of rain. If that’s not possible get
a free one-day policy from an insurance broker.
